AIOUTutor.pk publishes guides and information about Allama Iqbal Open University services, including admissions, assignments, examinations, results, workshops, portals and student resources. Some of this information can change when AIOU issues a new notice, begins another semester, revises a schedule or changes an online service.
We try to base factual information on reliable sources, particularly official AIOU information where applicable. Even with careful research, however, an error may occasionally appear or previously correct information may become outdated.
When a problem is reported or identified, we review the relevant page and make a correction, clarification or update when the available evidence supports a change.
What We Treat as a Correction
A correction is needed when information published on AIOUTutor.pk was materially inaccurate.
Examples may include:
- an incorrect admission, examination or assignment date;
- a wrong fee or amount;
- an incorrect course code;
- the wrong semester or programme;
- an incorrect deadline;
- incorrect instructions for using an AIOU portal;
- an inaccurate description of an AIOU procedure;
- a document identified as something it is not;
- a download presented for the wrong course, programme or semester.
Corrections focus on factual accuracy. When an error could affect a student’s decision or next step, we aim to correct the underlying information rather than simply rewording the sentence.
What We Treat as an Update
An update is different from a correction.
An update is made when information was accurate in its original context but the situation later changed, or when new relevant information became available.
For example, a page may need updating when:
- AIOU publishes a revised examination or assignment schedule;
- a new admission cycle opens;
- the current semester changes;
- an official portal moves to a different address;
- AIOU publishes a new notice that changes or clarifies a procedure;
- a previously unavailable official document becomes available;
- contact or support information changes.
In simple terms:
Correction: the previously published information was wrong.
Update: the situation or available information changed afterward.
Clarifications and Minor Edits
Not every change to a page is a correction.
A clarification may be made when the original wording could cause confusion even though the underlying fact is not necessarily incorrect. This is particularly important when information applies only to a certain programme, semester, course or group of students.
Minor edits can include spelling, grammar, punctuation, formatting, clearer wording and layout improvements.
Minor changes that do not alter the factual meaning of a page do not normally require a correction notice. They should also not be used to make old content appear newly researched.
How to Report an Error
If you find information on AIOUTor.pk that appears incorrect, outdated or misleading, please use our Contact Us page.
Where possible, include:
- the URL of the page;
- the statement, table, link or download that appears incorrect;
- a short explanation of the problem;
- the correct information, if you know it;
- an official or reliable supporting source, if one is available.
You do not need to prove that an error exists before contacting us. Supporting information simply helps us investigate the issue more accurately.
How We Review Reported Problems
The review depends on the type of information involved, but the normal process is to identify the exact claim or resource in question and compare it with the most relevant available evidence.
For AIOU-specific factual information, this may involve reviewing the relevant section of the official Allama Iqbal Open University website, an official notice, schedule, programme page, portal or document.
Where relevant, we also check whether the information applies to the correct:
- semester;
- programme;
- course code;
- assignment number;
- examination or session;
- student group.
After reviewing the evidence, the page may be corrected, updated, clarified or left unchanged.
If official sources appear to conflict, we do not want to hide that uncertainty by choosing one version without sufficient evidence. The wording may instead be clarified while the issue is investigated further.
Semester, Programme and Course Corrections
Information that is correct for one AIOU student may be wrong for another.
A schedule for Spring may not apply to Autumn. Instructions for one programme may not apply to another. Assignment requirements can also depend on the course, programme and semester.
For that reason, changing a semester or programme reference requires more than replacing a word or year in an existing page.
Before making this type of correction, the replacement information should be checked against the same student context wherever possible.
This helps prevent a correction from introducing a different error.
Incorrect or Outdated Downloads
Downloads require particular care because a working button does not necessarily mean that it leads to the correct document.
A download should be reviewed when it:
- no longer works;
- opens an unrelated page or file;
- belongs to another semester;
- shows the wrong course code;
- belongs to a different programme;
- is described incorrectly;
- has been replaced by a newer official document;
- cannot be verified as the resource promised on the page.
We do not want to replace a missing file with an unrelated document simply to keep a download button active.
If the correct resource cannot be verified or is no longer available, the page should state that clearly and, where useful, direct readers to the appropriate official AIOU route instead.
Broken or Changed External Links
AIOU portals, university pages and other external resources can move or change.
When an external link stops reaching the intended destination, we may update it if a verified replacement is available.
If no appropriate replacement can be confirmed, the broken or misleading link may be removed. An unavailable resource should not be redirected to an unrelated page merely to preserve a clickable link.
How Corrections and Updates Appear
The way a change is shown should reflect its importance.
A spelling, formatting or other minor edit does not normally need a public correction note.
A meaningful review or substantive update may justify displaying an updated date where the website supports one.
For a significant factual error, the incorrect information should be corrected and a brief correction note may be added where appropriate.
For example:
Correction: An earlier version identified the wrong semester for this schedule. The page has been corrected to show the applicable semester.
The purpose of a correction note is to help readers understand an important change, not to document every small editing adjustment.
Publication and Updated Dates
Publication and updated dates should provide useful information rather than create an artificial impression of freshness.
An original publication date should not be changed simply because a page is old.
Similarly, an updated date should represent a meaningful review, factual revision or substantive improvement. Correcting a typo or changing formatting alone should not make an article appear newly researched.
A year or semester label should only be changed when the information associated with it has also been reviewed.
When a Page Needs More Than a Correction
Sometimes changing one sentence is not enough.
Depending on the problem, a page may need to be substantially rewritten, combined with another page that serves the same student task, redirected to a genuinely equivalent replacement, or have unsupported material removed.
Pages should not be merged simply because they contain similar keywords. The deciding factor should be whether they genuinely serve the same reader need.
An obsolete page should also not be redirected to an unrelated homepage or article merely to preserve traffic.
When a Report Does Not Require a Change
Every report is considered in relation to the available evidence, but a reported issue will not necessarily result in a correction.
For example, no change may be needed when the published information matches the relevant official source, when the supplied information relates to a different semester or programme, or when the concern is primarily a preference about wording rather than a factual problem.
Where clearer wording would help prevent reasonable misunderstanding, a clarification may still be appropriate.
