For most students, the academic calendar is best used as a semester planning guide. Exact assignment deadlines, workshop dates and examination papers should still be confirmed from the relevant AIOU assignment schedule, workshop schedule or date sheet.
AIOU’s official Academic Calendar currently provides proposed Spring and Autumn schedules for ODL and face-to-face study, while separate postgraduate calendars contain specifically dated activities extending through 2027 and into 2028.
Which AIOU Academic Calendar Applies to You?
Before using a date from any calendar, identify your programme and study mode. A date shown for Matric or FA students should not automatically be applied to a BS, B.Ed, MPhil or face-to-face student.
AIOU’s academic calendar separates schedules for:
- Open Distance Learning or ODL
- Face-to-face or F2F programmes
- SSC and HSSC programmes
- BA, BS, B.Ed, MA, MSc and equivalent ODL programmes
- BS, MA and MSc face-to-face programmes
- MS, MPhil and PhD programmes
This distinction matters because admission periods, study periods, examinations and results can fall at different times for different groups.
AIOU ODL Academic Calendar
AIOU lists the following proposed semester schedule for Open Distance Learning students.

These dates come from the university’s general ODL academic-calendar table. They should be treated as the university’s proposed academic framework, not as a replacement for a programme-specific admission advertisement, assignment deadline or examination date sheet.
For example, once AIOU publishes an actual date sheet for your semester, that document should be used for your examination dates rather than relying only on the general examination period.
AIOU Face-to-Face Academic Calendar
Face-to-face programmes follow a different academic sequence. AIOU’s proposed F2F calendar includes an admission period followed by tests or interviews before the study period begins.

Students applying to programmes that require merit lists, tests or interviews should also follow the programme’s admission advertisement because the detailed selection schedule may differ from this broader calendar.
Programme-Specific ODL Semester Schedules
The main AIOU Academic Calendar also contains additional programme-group schedules. This is one reason students should not assume that the first Spring/Autumn table applies universally.
For BA, BS, B.Ed, MA, MSc and equivalent ODL programmes, AIOU lists a proposed pattern that includes:

A separate schedule shown on the same official page lists another semester pattern with Autumn admissions from 1 September to 15 October and Spring admissions from 1 March to 15 April, followed by different mailing, study and examination periods. Because the university page associates these tables with different programme groups, students should identify their programme before using a date.
The safest approach is simple: use the academic calendar for planning, then use the admission notice or examination schedule published for your exact programme when taking action.
AIOU MS, MPhil and PhD Calendar 2026–2028
AIOU has published an explicitly dated academic calendar for the MPhil/MS and PhD 2026–2028 cohort. Unlike the general recurring semester tables, these dates are tied to specific years.
Autumn 2026
The first semester begins on 1 October 2026. The midterm examination is scheduled for 26 November 2026.
Final-term examinations are scheduled from 10 February to 22 February 2027, followed by result declaration on 5 March 2027.
Spring 2027
The second semester is scheduled to begin on 1 April 2027.

For the third semester of the same 2026–2028 postgraduate cycle, the official calendar lists:
- Comprehensive examination: 1–7 October 2027
- Synopsis Orientation Workshop: 8–21 October 2027
- Synopsis submission: 15 March 2028
Students in another MS, MPhil or PhD intake should not automatically use these dates because AIOU publishes cohort-specific postgraduate calendars.
Spring 2026 Exams, Workshops and Assignments
The semester calendar does not replace the separate operational schedules AIOU publishes during each semester.
Spring 2026 Date Sheets
AIOU’s official Date Sheet page lists Spring 2026 examination schedules for MS, MPhil and PhD face-to-face programmes across different faculties. The same page also maintains programme-specific examination notices rather than treating the general academic calendar as the final paper timetable.

Spring 2026 Workshops
AIOU separately lists Spring 2026 ODL workshops, face-to-face workshops and a consolidated workshop schedule for relevant PG, B.Ed, BS and ADC programmes.
This is important because a workshop date should not be guessed from the general study period.

Assignments also follow programme and course-specific schedules. AIOU’s Spring 2026 assignment material directs applicable students to submit assignments through the Aaghi LMS portal and advises them to submit before the relevant due date.

AIOU Autumn 2026 Academic Status
AIOU currently identifies Autumn 2026 as the active admission semester on its official Admission Open page. It provides Autumn 2026 advertisements, prospectuses, OAS access and eligibility/fee information.
The admission page includes material for both ODL and face-to-face programmes, so students should open the advertisement or prospectus for their own programme rather than relying on an old closing date appearing elsewhere on the same page.
A general Autumn 2026 examination date sheet is a separate matter. AIOU’s Date Sheet page should be used when the relevant Autumn 2026 examination schedule is officially published. The academic calendar’s examination period is not itself a paper-by-paper date sheet.

What Has Been Announced for 2027?
Not every 2027 student activity has been announced as a year-specific schedule.
