This distinction matters. The scheme is often described as AIOU free education for orphan students, but it does not mean that every fee or expense is automatically covered.
Students looking for admission in the current semester should first confirm that their chosen programme is being offered. AIOU currently provides Autumn 2026 prospectuses for Matric, FA/FSc/I.Com, Associate Degree, B.Ed, BS, postgraduate and several other programmes.

Who Can Apply for the AIOU Orphan Scholarship?
AIOU includes orphans among the communities eligible for assistance under SSF-106. Both fresh and continuing AIOU students can apply if they meet the scheme’s conditions.
For the orphan category, the published eligibility conditions are:
| Requirement | AIOU SSF-106 condition |
|---|---|
| Student | Male or female |
| Study level | Up to graduation level |
| Normal age limit | Up to 25 years |
| Female exception | An unmarried or widowed female above 25 may benefit |
| Proof | Father’s death certificate and required certification |
| Student status | Fresh and continuing AIOU students may apply |
AIOU requires an orphan applicant to provide a valid document supporting the claim along with the father’s death certificate. The SSF-106 policy refers to certification from the relevant local authority, such as the Chairman or Vice-Chairman of the area or Union Council.
Students should submit genuine and properly attested documents because the regional committee examines eligibility before approving financial assistance.
Is AIOU Education Completely Free for Orphan Students?
Not in every sense.
The important fee rule is that an eligible orphan student receives a full fee waiver except the Admission Fee and Registration Fee payable at first admission.
| Fee or charge | SSF-106 position |
|---|---|
| Regular semester fee covered by the scheme | Full waiver for an eligible orphan student |
| First Admission Fee | Student pays |
| First Registration Fee | Student pays |
| Reappear examination/workshop charges | Student pays according to AIOU rules |
| Costs after permitted programme duration | Waiver is not continued under this provision |
AIOU also states that the facility remains available within the prescribed duration of the programme. If a student needs re-admission, a reappear examination or a reappear workshop to complete the programme, the applicable reappear fee is paid by the student.

Documents Required for SSF-106 Orphan Students
The official SSF-106 form asks for the applicant’s programme, semester and personal information and provides a separate category for Orphans.
Depending on whether the student is applying for fresh admission or continuing an existing programme, the application may require educational documents and student information along with the evidence supporting orphan status.
The most important document for the orphan category is the father’s death certificate with the certification required under the SSF-106 rules. Fresh students should also keep proof of the Admission and Registration Fee payment because AIOU requires these charges to be deposited at first admission before processing the concession.

The Directorate of Students Advisory & Counseling Services also lists the SSF-106 scheme and its PDF and Word application forms among AIOU’s active student-support schemes.

How to Apply for the AIOU Orphan Scholarship
The SSF-106 process should be kept separate from the normal admission application. A fresh student first needs to establish admission eligibility for the chosen programme and then follow the financial-support procedure.
- Check your programme. Confirm that your chosen programme is offered in the relevant semester and read its eligibility requirements in the official prospectus.
- Complete the admission process if you are a fresh student. Pay the Admission and Registration Fee required at first admission.
- Download the SSF-106 application form. Select the Orphans category on the form.
- Complete your details carefully. Enter your programme, semester, registration information and personal details as applicable.
- Attach the required evidence. Include the father’s death certificate and supporting certification required under the scheme, along with other applicable documents.
- Submit the application to your concerned AIOU Regional Office. AIOU specifically states that SSF-106 applications should first be submitted to the respective region.
- Follow instructions from the regional office. The Regional Committee assesses eligibility and processes the fee-concession case according to AIOU rules.
AIOU says students should not send the SSF-106 application directly to the Directorate of Student Affairs or Director Admission for fee concession. Such applications are not processed through that route.
Fresh applicants who need help with the normal admission process can use our AIOU Admission Form 2026 guide before completing the scholarship paperwork.
AIOU Autumn 2026 Admission and SSF-106
AIOU currently publishes prospectuses and admission information for the Autumn 2026 semester, including eligibility and first-semester fee information for programmes being offered.
However, students should not assume that a general admission date is automatically the deadline for an SSF-106 application. A separate current SSF-106 closing date is not clearly stated on the official scholarship page.
For this reason, check your programme’s current admission status and contact the relevant regional office when submitting the scholarship application.

Important Rules Students Should Know
AIOU allows a student to obtain financial support from only one support scheme in a semester. An orphan student receiving assistance through SSF-106 therefore should not assume that another AIOU financial-support scheme can automatically be combined with it.
Another important rule concerns fees already paid. AIOU’s published SSF-106 policy states that if a student has already deposited a fee that falls under the university’s non-reimbursement provision, the student should not assume that it will later be refunded merely because an SSF-106 application is approved.
Students should therefore contact their regional office before making additional payments when their financial-support case is being processed.
SSF-106 Is Different From AIOU’s Matric Free Education Plan
AIOU lists the Scholarship for Communities Scheme SSF-106 separately from its Matric Free Education Plan for Balochistan, former FATA/tribal areas and Gilgit-Baltistan.
An orphan applicant should therefore follow the SSF-106 rules rather than assuming that the conditions of a geographically targeted free-education scheme also apply.
Is AIOU Completely Free for Orphan Students?
Eligible orphan students can receive a full semester-fee waiver under SSF-106, but fresh students must pay the Admission and Registration Fee at first admission. Other charges, such as applicable reappear fees, are also not automatically covered.
Can a Fresh AIOU Student Apply for SSF-106?
Yes. AIOU states that both fresh and continuing students belonging to the communities covered by SSF-106 are eligible to apply, subject to the scheme’s conditions.
What Proof Does an Orphan Student Need?
The key proof is the father’s death certificate together with the supporting certification required under the SSF-106 policy. Students should also provide the other documents requested on the official application form.
Can an Orphan Student Over Age 25 Apply?
AIOU normally sets the orphan-category age limit at 25 years. However, its SSF-106 policy says an unmarried or widowed female above 25 years may also benefit from the scheme, subject to the remaining eligibility requirements.
